Since its inception 5 years ago, the size of the Fair has been enlarging. In 2004, the total exhibition area reached 12,000 square metres, registering an increase of 31% over that of previous Fair. The Fair also recorded 20,145 visitors in year 2004, showing a significant 34% growth over the previous Fair. The co-organizer, Neway International Trade Fairs Ltd., estimates more than 600 exhibitors from 15 countries and areas, including China, Hong Kong, Taiwan area, the USA, the UK, the UAE, Thailand, Singapore, Myanmar, Japan, Italy, Israel, Indonesia, India, Australia and the Czech Republic, etc., will take part. Exhibitors deem this as an important forum to showcase their latest design and build up business network. Over 30,000 visitors are expected this year.

The jewellery industry in Shanghai, as well as the country, has been developing at very high speed with enormous sales volume. With such competitive advantages as having the greatest number of prominent domestic and overseas jewellery manufacturers and strong jewellery consumption, Shanghai has already become the largest jewellery market in the mainland. Vast foreign and local investments are being attracted to the metropolis. Therefore, large scale and appealing events such as the Shanghai International Jewellery Fair would effectively make the city a hub for manufacturers and buyers. The event will not only upgrade Shanghai's international image but will also enhance its position as an international financial and trading center.
